The hands are often one of the first areas to show visible signs of ageing, yet they are frequently overlooked in aesthetic treatment plans. Hand ageing is driven by the same intrinsic and extrinsic factors as facial ageing. Intrinsic ageing causes a gradual decline in collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid production from the mid-twenties onwards. The dorsal skin of the hands is also very thin and has relatively few sebaceous glands, making it particularly vulnerable to dryness and UV damage. Years of sun exposure accelerate pigmentation and skin thinning, while repeated hand washing and exposure to cleaning products further compromise the skin barrier.
