Understanding the Condition

What is Nasolabial Folds?

Nasolabial folds are the lines that run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth — commonly called smile lines. While everyone has them, they deepen with age as the cheeks lose volume and descend. The most natural correction usually comes from restoring support higher in the mid-face rather than simply filling the fold itself. Paula assesses the whole mid-face to soften these lines in a balanced, undetectable way.

Common Causes

Nasolabial folds deepen primarily because of mid-face volume loss and the downward descent of the cheek fat pads with age. As the cheek deflates, tissue gathers at the fold. Skin laxity and repeated smiling add to the effect over time.

Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Should the fold be filled directly?

Often the most natural result comes from restoring volume to the cheek that has descended, which lifts and softens the fold from above. Direct filling of the fold may be used in addition, but over-filling the fold itself can look unnatural. Paula tailors the approach to your anatomy.

How long do results last?

Dermal filler results in this area typically last 12–18 months depending on the product used and individual metabolism. A top-up maintains the correction.

Is the treatment painful?

The fillers used contain a local anaesthetic and the area is numbed beforehand, so discomfort is minimal. Most clients describe only brief pressure.
