Understanding the Condition

What is Loss of Collagen?

From our mid-twenties we lose roughly 1% of our collagen each year, and the skin gradually becomes thinner, less firm, and less able to bounce back. Loss of collagen is the underlying driver behind fine lines, laxity, and dullness. Rather than treating each symptom in isolation, Paula uses collagen-stimulating treatments — Profhilo, polynucleotides, microneedling and biostimulators — to rebuild the skin's foundation and restore overall quality.

Common Causes

Collagen decline is a natural part of ageing, accelerated by UV exposure, smoking, poor sleep, hormonal change (particularly menopause), and high-sugar diets. As collagen and elastin diminish, the skin's structural scaffold weakens, leading to thinning, crepiness, and loss of bounce.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I stimulate my own collagen?

Treatments such as Profhilo, polynucleotides, microneedling, and biostimulators (e.g. Sculptra) trigger the skin to produce fresh collagen and elastin over the following months. Unlike filler, they improve the quality of the skin itself rather than adding volume. A course is usually recommended, followed by periodic maintenance.

How soon will I see results?

Because these treatments work by stimulating your own collagen, results build gradually — typically becoming visible from 4–6 weeks and continuing to improve for up to 3–6 months after a course.

Is it ever too early to start?

Starting collagen-supporting treatments in your late twenties or thirties — sometimes called prejuvenation — helps preserve skin quality and can reduce the intervention needed later.
